Fox Glacier

On the way out of town, we decided to see the terminal morraine of the Fox Glacier. This glacier has significantly retreated since the 1950's. A road leads up a beautiful canyon towards the parking lot, where a trail leads up to the glacier.

The short trail affords nice views of the glacier. It was lightly raining when we arrived, so we bundled up in rain gear for the walk. The clouds hung low, obscuring the view of the steep mountains above.

Beautiful waterfalls on the canyon walls

More of those great NZ signs!

The end of the glacier. The morraine appears to wobble and bend as it melts and feels the pressure of the river of ice pressing down.

After a quick look, we decided to head on and try to beat the oncoming storm.
